Iconic Beatles venue set for new life as Airbnb

The site of several early gigs by The Beatles is set to open as an Airbnb.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison performed more than 40 times at The Cashbah Coffee Club in West Derby during their rise to stardom.

Lennon’s first band The Quarrymen also made 13 appearances at the venue opened by Mona Best, mother of original Beatles’ drummer Pete, in 1959.

The Grade II listed building closed in 1962 but will now have a new lease of life for Fab Four devotees after it was developed into a five-apartment Airbnb.

Pete Best has been working on the conversion of the house with younger brother Roag, the son of Beatles road manager Neil Aspinall, since 2020.

Guests will be able to stay in suites named after Lennon, McCartney, Best and the band’s original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, who died suddenly in 1962.

But Best’s replacement Ringo Starr is not honoured in the new setup on account of him never playing at the venue prior to joining The Beatles.

“It’s nothing to do with Pete and Ringo and what happened,” Roag Best told the Press Association.

“Everything we do is about being authentic and The Beatles that performed and partied here were John, Paul, George, Pete and Stuart.

“Ringo was never a member when he was here.”

Each room has been decorated in a bespoke Beatles theme which includes photos of the band’s members alongside posters and guitars on the wall.

The basement where the group performed has been retained with drum kits still on display and ‘John I’m back’ scratched into the ceiling above the stage.
