Tributes have been paid to Mark Whyte after he was confirmed as the man killed in Tuesday’s crash on Aigburth Road.
The 52-year-old, a keen guitarist who lived alone in a flat on Normanton Avenue, died late on Tuesday after being hit by a white Volkswagen Golf close to the Territorial Army barracks on Aigburth Road.
A 26-year-old man from Widnes had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but Merseyside Police have since confirmed that the driver has been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his release.
Tributes have been flooding in to Mr Whyte following the announcement.
Neighbours described Everton supporter Whyte as “a nice man who wouldn’t hurt a fly,” while one tribute, left at the location of Mr Whyte’s death, said: “Mark, guna miss you, mate. Kieran, Cody, Daniel. EFC.”
A small candle was also left burning at the scene with the message: “Mark, may you rest in peace.”
Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the crash to call their road policing officers on 0151 777 5747 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
