John Moores University staff details leaked in data protection blunder

Liverpool’s John Moores University is at the heart of a data protection breach after the personal details of staff members were leaked to a former employee.

A PDF document containing the entire P60 forms of those currently working at the university were sent to an ex-colleague on Friday, June 24 in what officials claim was a ‘human error’.

Staff were informed of the breach within hours of it happening and received assurances from JMU chiefs that the forms, which detail each individual’s taxable income and deductions, have been deleted by the recipient.

An internal investigation has begun while the Information Commissioner’s Office, who regulate data protection in the UK, have also been notified of the incident.

Click Liverpool have approached JMU for comment.
