Everton FC can fill Romelu Lukaku void, says Mirallas

Kevin Mirallas believes Everton are well equipped to fill Romelu Lukaku’s void.

Lukaku secured a £75 million move to Manchester United earlier this month as the Blues drafted Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez as striking reinforcements.

The Belgium international racked up 26 goals in his final season at Goodison Park, which saw him become the club’s all-time Premier League top scorer.

But Mirallas has backed Ronald Koeman’s judgement in adapting Everton’s squad to cope with the loss of his compatriot to the current Europa League holders.

He said: “Everyone knows Romelu scored a lot of goals for Everton. He was so important in the last four seasons.

“But we have added a lot of players to the squad who have the possibility to score 10 or 15 goals.

“If five or six players score 10 goals, that is better than one Romelu. That is important.

“He has gone to United; that is life. I think Everton is better.”

Mirallas also hailed Rooney’s influence since returning to his boyhood club.

Rooney scored in successive pre-season friendlies for Everton against Gor Mahia and KRC Genk and the winger has already seen a noticeable difference.

“It is always good when you play with good players – and Wayne is fantastic,” added Mirallas.

“Everyone knows him. He came back here because he wants to help Everton. It was the best move for him, for his family, for everyone.

“The other thing is that he has a lot of experience to help the young players. We have got a lot of good young players here and he will help them every day.

“You could see it was a difficult game for him to start off but then, there is was – one chance, one goal. You need a player who can do that.”
