A strong Merseyside contingent will be travelling to Euro 2016 after a host of Liverpool and Everton players were named in England’s final 23-man squad.
Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson has whittled the selections down from his provisional 26-man team ahead of this summer’s tournament kicking off next week.
Chief among those travelling to France will be Everton duo John Stones and Ross Barkley, alongside Liverpool quintet Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge.
The selection of misfiring Blues midfielder Barkley and injury-prone Reds hitman Daniel Sturridge is the headline news from the announcement, with the pair previously thought to be at risk of missing out on the touring party after enduring mixed campaigns.
But ex-Liverpool manager Hodgson instead chose to cull Premier League title winner Danny Drinkwater, Newcastle’s Andros Townsend and injured Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph from the original list, granting the star duo a place on the plane.
