Liverpool are planning to lodge an appeal against the length of Sadio Mane’s ban.
Mane is set to miss the Reds’ next three games with Burnley and a league and cup double-header with Leicester after his sending-off against Manchester City.
The Senegal winger was issued a straight red card for his high-footed challenge on goalkeeper Ederson during his side’s 5-0 humiliation at the Etihad Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp had hinted that Liverpool may not appeal against Mane’s impending suspension but are now hoping to seek a reduction of the original sanction.
On Tuesday an FA disciplinary board will consider the case put forward by Anfield officials, which could see the number of games reduced if successful.
A verdict is likely to be reached by the time Klopp holds his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League game with Sevilla.
The Liverpool manager had hinted that Philippe Coutinho could make a return to action in the Group E encounter following a month-long absence through injury.
Coutinho’s prospective comeback also arrives weeks since Barcelona failed in their efforts to land the playmaker with offers in excess of £100 million.
“It was a decision made with the season in mind,” admitted Klopp.
“He came back from a long flight, after two substitute appearances and three weeks without training.
“We play on Wednesday, we play on Saturday, we play, play, play, play, play. I will have the situation all the time now over the next three or four weeks.
“We thought it best to give him three or four days proper training and then he’ll be available for us, which is very good news.
“Phil is a fantastic player, and hopefully we can use him as quickly as possible.”
