Liverpool handed UCL final ‘home’ advantage

Liverpool will occupy the ‘home’ dressing room in the Champions League final.

The Premier League runners-up are the designated away team in their showdown with Tottenham at Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium on June 1.

But the Reds have been allocated the changing facility used by stadium hosts Atletico Madrid as well as the dugout occupied by their coach Diego Simeone.

A number of security measures for the showpiece of Europe’s elite club competition were behind the surprise decision involving Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Various fan zones and planned routes have been mapped out across the Spanish capital to ensure both sets of supporters travel safely to the stadium.

Travelling Liverpool fans will access the stadium from the south side while their Spurs counterparts are set to arrive at the opposite end of the Metropolitano.

Both sides have been allocated 16,613 tickets apiece with the capacity expected to be cut down by 5,000 seats from its maximum seating of 68,000.

“Before we took our decision, we made an evaluation between the away fans, the Spanish police and the city of Madrid,” Atleti’s operations director Fernando Fariza told Sky Sports News.

“We took into account the number of fans of both of the finalists, the metro lines and the fan meeting points in the city.

“Taking into account all these issues, the final decision was that Liverpool fans should arrive at the south stand and they will have all their tickets in the south stand.

“On the other hand, Tottenham supporters will arrive at the north stand and they will have all their tickets in the north stand.”
