Klopp responds to Kop ticket protest plans

Jurgen Klopp has responded to Liverpool fans’ protest against ticket prices.

No flags will be displayed on The Kop ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Atalanta after the club’s matchday price increase.

Fan groups Spion Kop 1906 and Spirit of Shankly took the decision after owners Fenway Sports Group priced tickets for 2024/25 at a 2% increase.

They claim that the Reds did not consult with fans before taking the move, which is set to impact both season ticket holders and members’ tickets.

Anfield chiefs insist the price rise is a response to increased operating costs and equate to less than £1 per match for adults while junior tickets are frozen.

But while Klopp admits the situation is far from ideal, in what could be his final European home game, he believes both parties will find common ground.

He said: “That the flags are not there [is not a concern], as long as the people are there it is all good. But I understand the concerns and the discussions.

“It is a tricky one from my point of view. The opinion is clear; we want to have the people in the stadium and make it available for everybody.

“We are a self-sustaining club, as long as I’ve been here, and I can tell everyone that every pound we earn went directly back into football. It is not wasted for something.

“There are a lot of good things that the club is doing, like work for the community, but I understand 100% where the supporters are coming from.

“I am pretty sure they will find a solution in these situations.”
