Everton have launched a feasibility study to explore Goodison Park as their women’s team’s new home.
Tentative discussions about Brian Sorensen’s side possibly moving into the club’s spiritual abode after the to Bramley-Moore Dock have been ongoing for weeks.
But owners the Friedkin Group are now advancing the concept amid the Blues’ inability to upgrade their existing Walton Hall Park ground due to it being council owned.
The site holds a capacity of 2,200 but only contains 500 seats and the club currently face the prospect of being charged matchday rent by Liverpool City Council.
TFG are understood to view Goodison as a beneficiary next step in unlocking the potential of their Women’s Super League outfit, who currently sit eighth in the table.
They previously undertook a similar regeneration of Roma Women, who are aiming to win their third consecutive league title and have reached the Coppa Italia final.
Executive chairman Marc Watts informed staff of the Americans’ latest move during an address at the club’s official headquarters in the Royal Liver Building on Monday.
Interim chief executive Colin Chong recently admitted that Goodison could serve the women’s team for potentially the next decade if the option was to be taken up.
“We’re leaving a Premier League-fit stadium, it’s just not big enough for Everton’s growth plans,” he said at the MIPIM property conference.
“But it’s more than adequate to see women’s football through, probably for the next 10 or 15 years.
“There are heritage assets at Goodison Park that we’d like to reclaim and there are some parts that the local fan base would like to retain themselves.”
