Best Things to Do in Liverpool on a Budget

When people think of Liverpool, their first thoughts are often The Beatles, but this previous European city of culture has so much more to offer than being the birthplace of The Fab Four. Liverpool is an exciting destination for a fun day out or a longer city break and caters for all budgets, with many of its attractions either free or priced very reasonably. We’ve compiled a list of the best things to do in Liverpool on a budget so that you can start planning your next trip!

Maritime Museum / Museum of Liverpool / World Museum / International Slavery Museum

Liverpool has some of the best museums in the country and they all offer free entry. Spend a day museum hopping or spread them out in between other activities – after a shopping spree at Liverpool One or in between a stroll along Albert Dock. The museums cover a wide range of subject areas including the history of Liverpool’s port, treasures from around the world, dinosaurs and live creatures, and slavery both in its contemporary and historical form.

Junkyard Golf

Grab a couple of mates and get yourself down and Liverpool’s best crazy golf venue. Offering three different weird and wonderful courses to choose from, Junkyard Golf Club is the most fun you’ll have for £9.50 per person. Extend your quality time after playing mini golf in Liverpool with nostalgic drinks and food from the onsite bar. With fairground style hotdogs and drinks served in quirky red party cups, it’s an experience you’re not likely to forget.

Tate Liverpool

For all things modern and contemporary art, a walk around Tate Liverpool is a must. Set amongst the majestic Albert Dock, the prestigious art gallery is free to visit. If the idea of visiting the gallery leaves you a little bit hesitant, why not consider one of the daily tours, led by experienced guides who can help you discover the wonders of the art world.

FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology)

Not as well-known as some of the other attractions we’ve mentioned thus far but you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find. FACT is the home of commissioning, exhibiting, promoting and supporting artists and innovation in its specific field of film, video and new media.’ Visitors to the centre can expect to be awed by exhibitions from world-class international artists who seek to improve our knowledge about technological innovation and the impact this has on society. As with the rest of the museums and galleries, entry to FACT is free.

Liverpool Cathedral

The cathedral is Britain’s largest and if that isn’t enough to encourage you to visit, maybe the prospect of walking through the world’s highest arches or listening to the heaviest peal of bells in the world will.  You can explore the Cathedral completely free of charge, however if you want to enjoy unrivalled views of the City from the tower (and our recommendation would be that you should) then that will cost you £5.50 per person or £15.00 for a family ticket.

The Beatles Story / Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields

Another attraction that is easily accessible from Albert Dock, the Beatles Story is everything you ever wanted to know about The Fab Four, told through imagery, memorabilia and video. Your impressive journey through the Beatles celebration takes you through recreations of some of their most memorable locations such as Abbey Road studios, the Cavern Club and the Casbah Club. Tickets are priced at £17.00 per adult, for what is sure to be a brilliant day out for any Beatles fan. Alternatively, you could visit the real Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields absolutely free to relive some of the nostalgia and go and have your picture taken with the Beatles statue at Pier Head on the waterfront.

Cavern Club

Free to visit Mon-Sunday between 10 am and 12 pm, the Cavern Club is your chance to get up close and personal with one of the most famous clubs in the world. If you’d like to hang around for some live music, there are a variety of performance options across the Live Lounge, Pub and Front Stage areas, each reasonably priced.

There’s no need to let your budget stop you having fun in Liverpool. With great prices and great experiences to be had, why not get out and about in Liverpool this weekend and see how far your budget could take you!
