How Liverpool Produces So Many Musicians

The UK has a budding music scene and there are plenty of reasons why this is the case, but there is also a stand out area. We take a look at why which cities are producing so many talented artists and also why there seem to be so many emanating from Liverpool. It’s not just all about the Beatles though, there are plenty of up-and-coming musicians from the city.

Musical history in the city

For Liverpool, it is not all just about musicians. The city produces artists in all senses of the word. Yes we don’t want to talk all about The Beatles but we do have to mention that they came from Liverpool. Other artists from the city include The Lightning Seeds and The Wombats, who have both had success in their own right. There are countless others but that’s not why we are writing this article.

We are here to talk about the iconic landmarks and studios which enable Liverpool to produce so many artists. We can talk about it being one of the most cities of culture but also there is clear evidence that young artists are inspired by what has come before them.

A thriving music scene in Liverpool

Wherever you walk in the North West, whether it be Liverpool or Manchester, there is strong evidence to suggest that past success is the reason behind talented artists, alongside a music heritage that is unrivalled.

This site has referenced festivals and events before which have indicated why Liverpool produces so many budding musicians. A quick look at the Folk on the Deck festival which was held in Liverpool in 2018 highlights the importance of the arts in the North West. General pride in the city also helps the culture scene. The football clubs in Merseyside generate tourism like no other in which people flock to the city and breathe it all in. There is a real sense of togetherness in the city which generates a collective nature of musicians, artists and sportsmen.

Music facilities in Liverpool

Being a City of Culture means that local councils are able to generate enough facilities to ensure that people are allowed to thrive.

There are music studios all over the country that allow young artists to thrive but ones that incorporate all the necessary equipment and tools are not easy to come by. In Liverpool, however, there are plenty. One example would be PIRATE’s Liverpool recording studios who really allow you to release your inner creativity. They provide a recording studio which breeds creativity with state-of-the-art equipment. It is no wonder people are expecting many more musicians to come out of the North West with facilities like this on offer.

How Sport is Helping Creativity

We all know what the city of Liverpool was like when craving sporting success. This actually had an impact on the music and arts industry when the football team finally achieved the 30 year goal of winning the Premier League. It helped to bring the city together. Despite happening in Covid times, it was still a release for the city. As well as music, sport and exercise allows people to release some of the inner creativity that has been held back during lockdown. With the football club anthem being ‘You Will Never Walk Alone’, it was vitally important that the city comes together. Collectively and communication is important in producing artists and now with the facilities beginning to open up, there is more scope for artists to take off. Songs will be written about the sporting triumph, which despite being a year ago still seems fresh in the memory.

So why does Liverpool produce so many artists?

Based in the North West, not every single artist comes out of Liverpool. Manchester is breeding new artists every year but Liverpool remains the stand out. It definitely can be put down to the heritage. You grow up in Liverpool and all you hear about is the music culture and the football team. You cannot walk down the streets of the city without a reference to the football club or former musicians. It is this culture and history however which has led to many state of the art facilities. Music recording studios and companies who rent them out have laid their roots in Liverpool because they want to help produce the next generation of superstars.

Being from Liverpool can sometimes give you a head start in the arts. Drawing on the experience of many musicians and artists from the area is also key. Where did they learn? What advice would they give? Who should you talk to get ahead in the industry? These are all key questions which people will want to ask in order to be the next big thing in Liverpool.
