Cineworld Speke celebrates fantastic first year

Cineworld Speke will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Wednesday 7th August with Everton in the Community, offering the local community a chance to meet Under-23 players from Everton Football Club’s Premier League 2 winning team and be part of the fun – all in the name of charity.

As part of Cineworld Speke’s ongoing commitment to support and give back to the local community, the cinema will host a charity screening of The Angry Birds 2 in their Superscreen for Everton in the Community (EitC), the official charity of Everton Football Club. One of the UK’s top sporting charities, EitC is at the centre of community sports development, providing life-saving opportunities for vulnerable and underprivileged individuals living in Merseyside.

The screening event anticipates attendance from over 150 children and their families from the local community. To add, Cineworld has pledged to match any contributions made based on the number of the tickets sold by EitC with all money raised contributing towards the building of ‘The People’s Place’, a new purpose built mental health facility close to Goodison Park which will support anyone in times of need.

On top of the charity screening, Cineworld Speke is inviting local residents to join in throughout the day with a whole host of exciting festivities and activities planned for its landmark anniversary. Attendees can:

  • Play FIFA on the Superscreen to test their football skills against Everton’s U23 players
  • Feel like a movie star by walking the red carpet and having their photo taken with Everton’s U23 players, former Blues star Ian Snodin, and recent Miss Liverpool Region Winner, Finley Unsworth
  • Take on the speedball challenge and see if they can kick a ball as hard as some of the best players in the game
  • A wide variety of charity raffles, competitions and giveaways, with prizes to be won throughout the day, including an Unlimited card, which gives you access to Unlimited movies for one whole year

Andrew Starkie, Cineworld Speke General Manager, comments: “It’s been an incredible first year and we’ve loved being part of the local community, welcoming over half a million customers through our doors since we opened. We are delighted to share our anniversary celebrations with Everton in the Community, and, along with a wealth of other activities taking place in the cinema, we’ll be sure to get everyone into the party spirit.”

Cineworld Speke has welcomed nearly half a million cinema-goers in its first year. Located at the New Mersey Shopping Centre, the cinema houses an impressive Superscreen, which is the biggest screen in Liverpool, an on-site Starbucks, and the UK’s first ScreenX, which extends the film out onto the side walls of the screening room for a truly atmospheric 270 degree viewing experience that surrounds you in your seat.

Cineworld Speke has shown over 300 films over the past year, playing the biggest blockbusters and delivering thousands of hours of movie magic for local residents.
