Police have arrested five people after a man suffered head injuries in Birkenhead.
The injured 47-year-old was discovered by emergency services in Claughton Road at around 2.45pm on Wednesday.
Paramedics had been called to a report that a man had fallen down some steps near the B&M store.
He was taken to Arrowe Park hospital by ambulance where his condition deteriorated.
Police were subsequently informed and officers began enquiries to establish who he was and how he came about his injuries.
The man has since been transported to Walton Neurological Centre in Liverpool having suffered several bleeds on the brain.
His current condition is described as ‘stable’ but was previously in a critical state.
Detectives believe the man had been with a group of other people at the time he suffered the head injury.
