A pensioner has died after a hit-and-run on Queens Drive.
The female pedestrian suffered multiple injuries in the collision with a motorbike beneath the flyover at the junction of Queens Drive and Moor Lane in Walton on Saturday.
Police have revealed that the rider of the bike failed to stop at the scene and rode off against the flow of traffic towards Rice Lane.
The victim has been identified as a local woman aged in her 70s who was taken to Aintree hospital after the incident at around 5pm but died a short time later.
Extensive CCTV enquiries are being carried out and witnesses who stopped to help the victim are being spoken to.
Detective Inspector Mark Drew said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a local woman has simply been crossing the road when she has been struck by a motorbike whose rider has callously rode off leaving her seriously injured on the ground.
“We believe this motorbike was ridden against the flow of traffic towards Rice Lane so dozens of motorists and other passers-by must have seen this vehicle in the aftermath.
“I would urge everyone who was in this part of Liverpool at this time to cast their minds back about whether they saw a motorbike being ridden erractically.
“If anyone can tell us anything about the vehicle involved they should call us immediately so that we can fully investigate this tragic incident.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a motorbike riding in the area either before or afterwards is urged to call Merseyside Police on either 0151 777 4065 or 777 5747 or alternatively leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting log number 850 of December 2.
