Liverpool drug lord captured after escape

A fugitive Liverpool drug lord has been captured after a month on the run.

Daniel Gee escaped from Kirklevington Prison in Stockton-on-Tees, where he had been serving an imprisonment public protection sentence since 2010.

His conviction for threats and gun offences after being shot by Jamie Starkey outside an Anfield pub in January 2008 carries an indeterminate sentence.

The 44-year-old absconded from Kirklevington on May 27 before he was rearrested in Wigan on Tuesday (June 25) ahead of his return to prison.

“We can confirm that Daniel Gee, who had absconded from prison, was detained yesterday (Tuesday 25 June) in Wigan by officers from Merseyside Police,” confirmed a Merseyside Police statement.

“Gee absconded from Kirklevington Prison in Stockton-on-Tees on Monday 27 May and extensive efforts had been ongoing to locate him since.

“He is currently in police custody and will be returned to prison.”

CCTV documented Gee’s last known movements on June 12 as he boarded a train at James Cook University Hospital towards Middlesbrough.

Hours later, he was captured taking a 2.16pm train towards Liverpool Lime Street station however it is unknown at what station he disembarked.

At the time of his disappearance, the Ministry of Justice admitted that it was a ‘rare scenario’ for a prisoner to escape from a Category D facility.
