Everton cleared of outstanding PSR charge

Everton’s outstanding Profit and Sustainability charge has been dropped.

The Premier League had originally contested a figure of £6.5m from the Goodison Park club’s second case for losses in the 2022/23 season.

Interest payments on loans taken out for the building of the Blues’ future home at Bramley-Moore Dock stood at the heart of the disputed amount.

A deferred hearing had been due to take place but was delayed until October to allow club officials to provide more detailed information to top flight chiefs.

But it was confirmed on Friday that David Moyes’ side now have no case to answer over the matter, which was part of their previous two-point deduction.

A statement read: “After considering the further information and documents provided by the club in detail, the Premier League Board has concluded that it would not be appropriate or proportionate to continue to pursue the second part of their complaint.

“The club and the league agree that this brings to an end all proceedings between the league and the club in relation to the club’s breaches of the PSR for the financial years ending 30 June 2022 and 30 June 2023.”

Everton were hit with two point deductions for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 season but were successful in reducing their original 10-point sanction.
