Everton name new CEO in leadership reshuffle

Everton have confirmed their new CEO amid a club leadership reshuffle.

Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear will take up the role on June 1, shortly after an eight-year spell at Elland Road where he held the same position finally ends.

The former Arsenal and West Ham executive takes over duties from Colin Chong, who has filled the leadership vacuum as interim CEO since summer 2023.

Chong will remain part of the club as they transition to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock while also overseeing the future of their current Goodison Park home.

Another seismic development under owners The Friedkin Group’s new plans is the departure of Kevin Thelwell as the Blues’ director of football after over three years.

Thelwell will leave the Blues once his current contract expires at the end of the current campaign as part of a change in the club’s football operations model.

The director of football role will be scaled down as part of a wider sporting model with David Moyes already involved in planning for the summer transfer window.

Also leaving Everton will be chief and commercial communications officer Richard Kenyon, who served the club for 11 years in a variety of senior leadership roles.

Everton’s executive chairman Marc Watts said: “Angus is one of England’s leading football executives and brings a wealth of relevant experience.

“His appointment means Everton will go into the summer with a first-class leader.

“A warm thank you to Colin for his leadership in steering the club through some of the most challenging times in its history.

“I’m delighted and comforted that he will remain with us in a vitally important role as we use the new Everton Stadium as a launchpad for regeneration of the local area.

“Kevin has been integral in ensuring Premier League survival in this difficult period.

“By resolving PSR issues through significant player trading we believe we have an extraordinary squad that can be the foundation for future success.

“This future success will also be supported by our talented sporting department assembled by Kevin. We are pleased Kevin will remain with us in this interim period.”
