NBA head coach joins Everton ownership

Everton have confirmed a second boardroom appointment in as many days.

NBA legend and Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd will join the club’s ownership group Roundhouse Capital, a subsidiary of The Friedkin Group.

The 52-year-old’s appointment comes little more than 24 hours since the Blues announced financier Christopher Sarofim’s arrival in a role of board observer.

Kidd is widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, as a 10-time NBA All-Star and won the 2011 championship as a point guard with the Mavericks.

He also won two Olympic gold medals for the USA in 2008 and 2008 while his coaching career incorporates spells at Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.

In his current role, Kidd guided the Mavericks to success in the Western Conference Championship last year.

Everton’s executive chairman Marc Watts said: “On behalf of The Friedkin Group and the Everton board of directors, I am pleased to welcome Jason to our ownership group.

“As one of the NBA’s greatest players and now a successful coach, his knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource for Everton.

“He is a respected leader and household name for many sports fans and will bring a deeper understanding of high performance as we collectively strive to build a brighter future for this storied club.”
