Mane becomes Liverpool’s latest international casualty

Sadio Mane has joined Liverpool’s growing list of casualties on international duty.

Mane visited a hospital on Monday ahead of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Sudan amid concerns over a minor hand injury.

Although the setback is unlikely to sideline the winger for long, he became the latest Reds player to succumb to injury while representing his country.

Mohamed Salah has already returned to Merseyside to undergo medical tests a muscle problem sustained during Egypt’s 4-1 win over Swaziland last weekend.

Liverpool also saw Virgil van Dijk report back ahead of schedule due to the ongoing effects of a rib injury picked up earlier in the season.

However Holland coach Ronald Koeman confirmed that the defender’s withdrawal was pre-agreed and that he will be available for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield.

“He’s back in Liverpool but he is ready to play for next week. He’s taken a rest,” said Koeman.

“He spoke to the manager. The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool.

“He is ready to play next weekend.”
