Sadio Mane sets new Premier League record

Sadio Mane set a new Premier League record in Liverpool’s win over Fulham.

Mane opened the scoring in Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage as Jurgen Klopp’s side overtook Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

The Senegal international’s 17th goal of the campaign ensured that he would become his country’s most prolific marksman in an English top flight season.

A first-half strike saw Mane surpass compatriot Demba Ba’s previously long-standing record of 16 during his time with Newcastle United in 2011/12.

He also remains in the hunt for this season’s Premier League Golden Boot by moving within one goal of Manchester City marksman Sergio Aguero.

Reds teammate Mohamed Salah, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Arsenal counterpart Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also tied on 17 goals.

Mane has scored in each of his past 11 games in all competitions for Liverpool, including a brace in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich.
