Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned a suspected positive Covid-19 test.

Alexander-Arnold was a notable absentee from Liverpool’s match day squad for their FA Cup third round encounter with Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.

Anfield officials confirmed that the England international, 23, recorded the positive result shortly after last weekend’s Premier League draw with Chelsea.

However the Reds are confident that Alexander-Arnold will return to training ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal next Thursday.

“Trent is missing after registering a suspected positive COVID test shortly after Chelsea,” confirmed a club statement.

“He is expected to return to training in the coming days.”

Jurgen Klopp is able to lead his side from the touchline against the League One outfit after being cleared by testing following his isolation period.

Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino were also named among the substitutes to face Shrewsbury following their own Covid earlier in the New Year.

However Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders remains sidelined due to testing positive shortly before to the postponed trip to the Emirates Stadium.
