Eight Liverpool staff now set to leave

Eight members of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool backroom staff are now set to leave.

Assistant goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson will depart from the Anfield setup this summer, following in Klopp’s footsteps, after spending six years with the club.

He joined the Reds from the Football Association’s developmental ranks and previously spent spells with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

Robinson joins his superior John Achterberg in a growing list of lieutenants preparing to make a break with the club when Klopp leaves at the end of the current campaign.

Also set to leave is Liverpool’s head of recovery and performance Dr Andreas Schlumberger, who first joined the club in late 2020 following a year with Schalke.

He joins Klopp’s deputies Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, elite development coach Vitor Matos and head of conditioning Andreas Kornmaye in the summer exodus.

It was later revealed that general manager of first-team operations Ray Haughan will also be cutting ties with Merseyside after 16 years within the inner sanctum.

Liverpool are expected to see a flurry of technical incomings once Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is finally confirmed as Klopp’s successor in the coming weeks.

Klopp also confirmed in his final pre-match press conference that Achterberg is set to link up with Anfield legend Steven Gerrard at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq.

He said: “John Achterberg joins Stevie, good luck with that!

“Fantastic coach. If you ask the goalies over the years, he coached on one day 12 goalies.

“I didn’t know we had that many at the club but he coached everybody and their dogs. It was unbelievable, fantastic.

“Jack Robinson is leaving as well, fantastic young goalie coach, the future is bright for him.

“Andreas Kornmayer will leave, the future is bright for him – his CV is Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC in the most successful spells they can have. So that’s really cool.

“Dr Andreas Schlumberger will leave. So many people will leave. But it’s normal, actually, they don’t leave because I go or whatever.

“There’s a new start and that’s fine and if you want to be part of the football business, you need to be move a lot because usually you get the sack after half a year or a year, stuff like this.”
