Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final clash.
Alexander-Arnold suffered an ankle injury midway through the second half of Tuesday’s eventual Champions League last 16 exit to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Reds’ vice-captain appeared visibly distraught as he underwent treatment on the pitch, leading to fears that he will miss Sunday’s Wembley showdown.
And Slot confirmed that Alexander-Arnold is officially ruled out for the meeting with Newcastle but remains hopeful that Ibrahima Konate will be available.
“Trent is not available. He will not be there at the final,” said Slot.
“He is still to be assessed for how long it’s going to take but we do expect him back in [before] the end of the season.
“Konate, we didn’t train yesterday, we were on a day off and the day before was recovery, so I expect him to train with us today.
“But let’s see how he is.”
Jarell Quansah is set to step into Alexander-Arnold’s void at Wembley, having regularly replaced his fellow academy graduate as a substitute this season.
The versatile centre-back’s displays so far have been rewarded in the form of a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s first-ever England squad on Friday morning.
“I think he showed in his recent performances that he’s outgrown being called a talent,” added Slot.
“That’s probably what Thomas Tuchel saw and sees as well by giving him a call-up.
“He did really well the last few times he had to play for us and even in a position he’s not completely used to as a right full-back.
“But in my opinion, he has also the qualities to play in that position.”
