Real Madrid close in on Alexander-Arnold deal

Trent Alexander-Arnold is closing in on a move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s homegrown vice-captain will be able to move to the reigning Spanish and European champions as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

Los Blancos sought to test the Reds’ resolve with a tentative approach at the end of last year which was flatly rejected without any discussion on potential transfer fees.

But Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now working on finalising a deal to make Alexander-Arnold their first signing of the summer with talks ongoing between both camps.

The Premier League leaders have tried to tie the 26-year-old down to a new long-term deal in attempts to stave off the current overtures from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alexander-Arnold is one of three established first-team figures who will soon be out of contract at Anfield alongside veterans Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Since making his senior breakthrough in late 2016, the West Derby native has won practically every major honour available to him at club level with Liverpool.

He could still end this campaign with a second Premier League winners’ medal as Arne Slot’s side hold a 12-point lead over Arsenal heading into the final nine games.
