Arne Slot has denied Darwin Nunez’s recent omission is linked to a transfer clause.
Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer after another frustrating season despite the club on the verge of winning the Premier League title this weekend.
Reports in Portugal claimed that the Reds will have to pay Benfica an additional €5 million should the Uruguayan rack up a 60th start in all competitions for the club.
But Slot, who recently denied rumours of Nunez being involved in a bust-up, insists no such clause has been communicated by sporting director Richard Hughes.
He said: “This is completely new to me,
“I’ve said many times that I’m working at a club here where it’s really nice to work.
“Mainly sporting directors are judged by the players they bring in, for me it’s very important to have a great working environment and I have that with Richard.
“The last thing he would do, as I expect working with him for 10 months, is tell me: ‘If you play him it would cost us this much.’ He would never do that.
“I don’t even know if it’s true, because we never talk about that. He never interferes with a line-up.”
The Liverpool head coach also revealed on Friday that veteran defender Joe Gomez is nearing a first-team return after undergoing hamstring surgery in February.
“If his recovery goes well then Joe would be able to maybe in the last game or two of the season but he is still not training with us yet,” added Slot.
“He’s coming closer and closer to training with the team. But he has been out for a long time.”
