Jurgen Klopp defends Liverpool FC’s under-fire Alberto Moreno

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has strongly defended Alberto Moreno following recent criticisms of the Spaniard.

Moreno struggled during his first two years at Anfield and was again questioned following last weekend’s 4-3 victory over Arsenal.

But Klopp has leapt to the defence of the former Sevilla full-back after he conceded a first-half penalty at the Emirates Stadium.

He said: “He was involved in the penalty situation, we spoke about this.

“But also how can we defend differently together, because the situation was cleared two times before the penalty situation?

“In my opinion we could have avoided this situation in five, six times before and then it came to a situation, and Alberto could have done better but that is all.”

Liverpool’s win over Arsenal was their fourth opening day victory in a row but Klopp stated how there is still room for improvement within the squad.

“Yes we won 4-3, but it’s not that I thought that we could not have done better in this game,” he added.

“I have made no final decisions on my line-up. There is a lot things to improve, a lot of players coming back into training.”
