Liverpool in talks over permanent Origi exit

Liverpool are currently in talks to offload Divock Origi to Wolfsburg.

Origi is currently on a season-long loan with the Bundesliga side, who are understood to have paid a £6 million fee to the Reds to facilitate the move.

But ‘Die Wolfe’ are now keen to make the striker’s stay a permanent one after a semi-respectable start to his time at the Volkswagen Arena this season.

The Belgium international has scored four times in 15 league outings and enters the final 12 months of his current Anfield contract at the end of this season.

Wolfsburg’s sporting director Olaf Rebbe held inaugural talks with his Liverpool counterpart Michael Edwards in efforts to reach an agreement on Origi’s future.

“The people at Liverpool are merchants, no Samaritans,” he told Kicker.

“We will still try to exhaust our possibilities, alongside the player who feels well here.”

Prior to moving to Germany, Origi was a semi-regular fixture in Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, scoring 21 times in 76 appearances across the past two seasons.

But a place at next summer’s World Cup prompted the 22-year-old to pursue a move elsewhere in efforts to obtain a consistent run of games.
